The word “Abracadabra“ dates back to at least the 2nd century AD, when the Roman physician Serenus Sammonicus prescribed wearing amulets featuring the word as a spell to ward off fevers and illness. In historical texts, the word was written on parchment in a shrinking triangle (dropping one letter per line until only the letter 'A' remained) to symbolize the gradual fading of disease or a curse.
Experts debate the exact origin, but it is often linked to ancient phrases (such as avra kedabra), which translate to "I create as I speak."
